A native Californian transplanted to
New England, Katrina Thorstensen brings an
awareness of place and an artist’s eye for color and light to her
paintings. She has exhibited her paintings in a recent solo show and her work has been has been recognized with entry into regional juried shows and awards.
“I have always been an artist. Drawing and painting were my refuge and
outlet growing up, and art has always been a part of my life. I was drawn to pastels because of their color
intensity and immediacy of application. My paintings represent my exploration of color, light and place. Place has always been important to me, and I
think I am not alone in this. The places in my paintings resonate for me
in some way. Using the medium of pastel
and working with color and light, I hope to convey the feeling of these places
to the viewer.”
In addition to her art, Katrina works as a certified nurse-midwife at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical
Center in Lebanon, NH, where she has provided care to women and families for over 20 years. She lives in Norwich,Vermont with her husband and daughter.
